We can all do things that help make our communities safer. Whether it's neighborhood watch or safe and courtious driving, everyone has a responsibility to act in a manner that promotes a safe environment.
Things to remember at home:
If you see suspicious activity, report it to law enforcement.
Never open your door to your home without knowing who the person is first.
Never give personal information over the phone.
Things to remember while driving:
Travel in the right lane on four-lane highways. The left lane is for passing and faster traffic. Never ride beside a vehicle traveling at the same speed. This clogs traffic and is unsafe.
When an emergency vehicle is approaching you from the rear, safely pull to the RIGHT shoulder of the road. This applies to ambulances, fire trucks, and police vehicles. Public safety personnel are responding to someone in need. If it is a police vehicle, the officer may need to pass you and not be stopping you for a traffic violation. Never stop in the middle of the road or slam on brakes. Do not stop on the left shoulder.
Limit cell phone use while driving only for emergencies. Many traffic accidents are caused by drivers distracted by use of cell phones.
If you see suspicious activity or an unsafe driver, report it by calling 911.
Always wear seatbelts. It saves lives and prevents injuries.
